2016 Grant County Candidate Forum Slated for September

The public is invited to attend the 2016 Grant County Candidate Forum on Tuesday, September 13 from 5:30 to 8:00 pm at the WNMU Global Resource Auditorium.

This event is co-sponsored by the Grant County Prospectors, Silver City Regional Association of Realtors, Silver City Radio, Silver City – Grant County Chamber of Commerce, and Western New Mexico University.

Mischa Larisch, GC Prospector president will introduce the forum’s moderator, Scott Terry of the Silver City-Grant County Chamber of Commerce.

The four New Mexico State Representative candidates for districts 39 and 38 will open the forum. The candidates to present for District 39 are Rudy Martinez (D) and Rep. John Zimmerman (R) and for District 38 are Mary Hotvedt (D) and Rebecca Dow (R).

During the next portion of the forum begins at 6:30 pm with the six Grant County Commissioner candidates for Districts 3, 4, and 5. The candidates to speak from District 3 are Alicia Edwards (D) and Henry Torres (R), the candidates from District 4 are Marilyn Alcorn (D) and Billy Billings (R), and the candidates from District 5 are Harry Brown (D) and Harry Pecotte (R) plus write-in candidate De Ann Bencomo (D).

Prospectors Set Legislative Timeline

The Grant County Prospectors have set the dates for their legislative timeline for 2014/2015. The first event will be the Capital Outlay Workshop hosted by the Southwest New Mexico Council of Governments (SWNM COG) on October 22, 2014, at 10 am held in the City Hall Annex, 2nd Floor Conference Room. To register for this free workshop, contact the COG office at 575-388-1509.

Applications to present at the Legislative Communications Forum will be available at the workshop. This forum provides an open dialogue between state lawmakers and the local governments, organizations, businesses and people who make up their districts. Presentations come from many sectors: Local Governments including water districts, Education, Healthcare, Non-Profit, and Regulatory Issues. Presentation applications are due by November 18th.

The Annual Legislative Communication Form will be held on Tuesday, December 2, starting at 8 am at the Western New Mexico University Global Resource Center Auditorium. From theses presentations the Prospectors Community Legislative Action Committee (CLAC) on December 8th will set the priorities to be included in an Issues of Concern brochure. The members of the Grant County Prospectors, forum presenters, business partners and community members will travel to Santa Fe for Grant County Days at the Legislature and Prospector Forum to be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2014.

2013 Legislative Communications Forum

Monday, December 9, Grant County Prospectors hosted their annual Legislative Communication Forum where Grant County sectors – government, education, non-profit organizations and Healthcare — presented their concerns and capital outlay requests to our area legislators. Pictured are Gila Regional CEO Brian Cunningham presenting to (left to right) Grant County Prospector President Kim Clark, Senator Howie Morales, Representative Rudy Martinez and Representative Dianne Hamilton. The forum results in a notebook for each legislator containing the presenters requests and concerns to be used during the upcoming NM State Legislature. From this Prospectors develop a list of Grant County Issue of Concerns to present at Grant County Day in Santa Fe on January 29, 2014.

Grant County Prospectors hold legislative forum at WNMU

SILVER CITY — Ideas between lawmakers and local leaders flowed freely Friday at the Grant County Prospectors’ Legislative Communication Forum on WNMU’s campus.

State Representatives Diane Hamilton and Rudy Martinez and Senator Howie Morales participated in the forum organized by the Grant County Prospectors. The goal was to open a dialogue between state lawmakers and the local governments, organizations, businesses and people who make up their districts.
